What are some stories of apathy that I can use in a speech?

I'm giving a speech about the dangers of apathy in America and I have quotes and everything else I need but I cannot find a good story about apathy or the danger of apathy. I tried searches and everything I could think of but I cannot find anything. Do you know of any good story of apathy or a place where I can find a good story? thanks
