It's a love/hate thing for me, I guess. I'm your typical big boned, chunky Irish gal with red hair, blue eyes and terribly fair skin. So..even though I love the beach and all, and live in So. Cal., I am very sun sensitive and somewhat "swimsuit challenged".
I'm built for cold, cloudy climate instead. I hate being coated in sunscreen and wearing sunglasses and hats...but I have too!
Other than that...I love being an authentic Irish Lass!
Don't You?

We are who we are..........Where we were born or who we were born unto was not something we had a list of options for while awaiting to be discharged from the birth canal. (lol). Some days for me it's great to be from my country........But when ones government is not making some very wise decisions or your country has made world news because of some bizarre person running around in your society, it tends to lower the pride factor a wee bit. We all have some occurrence that makes us feel one way or another. Be proud of your own personal accomplishments no matter how big or small they may be so long as there was a positive spin. No mater where we are native to and move to another country your gonna have an accent to the locals. Irish dance is world renown. Folklore. golf, musicians, longevity. steeped history. etc. etc. The one thing that is for sure. If you are Fiona, have red hair, and are Irish. Your the only red haired Irish Fiona like you. No two individuals are the same. Have a great time being you and not someone else. Enjoy!!! P.S. Thanks for St. Patricks Day. What a great time to be had in March.

The Irish people are some of the oldest most sophisticated people on earth. They had a rudimentary civilization that rivaled that of Rome and Greece. They were well traveled and according on what history you read were in America one thousand years before Columbus and everyone else except the Norse. You should definitely be proud of your heritage. My ancestors are Greek, Irish, English, Welsh and German and I am proud to be a part of such a distinguished line. So should you. Enjoy life as a beautiful Irish lass.

Not really, the Irish aren't really known for much besides folklore. If I were Irish (granted, my name is Erin, but I'm Scotch-English-Czech) I would be kind of depressed because of all the crap they had to put up with (England). I'm sure many Leprechauns will try to kill me for this statement, but that's just what I think. I hate being thought of as Irish because of my name, I just don't want to be associated with such a weak country. However, I am mostly ignorant of Irish culture, so forgive me for saying this with such an ignorant bias.

There are many good reasons to be proud to be Irish. Being Irish means being part of an ancient cultured nation of people who were the most educated in Europe, attracting scholars to it's centers of learning from far and wide. Our monuments with megalithic art are older than the pyramids. Written literature in 'Old Irish' dates from the 6th century AD, a language which survives to this day. Modern writers of literature in both the Irish and English language are renowned worldwide. Our music which has always been important in Irish cultural life, from traditional and classical to modern has earned an international reputation.
In today's Ireland
"The education system in Ireland is one of the best in the world according to the 2006 independent IMD World Competitiveness Report. Almost 1 million people are in full time education."
"Irish directors and companies are Top of the Board of Directors (BoDs), according to an annual European corporate governance rating."
Irish top the London education league
"New figures have revealed Irish people aged 16-34 in the capital are more likely to have good educational qualifications than the rest of the population."
"Ireland ranks as the world's most global nation for the third year in a row"
Ireland is the best place to live in the world, according to "quality of life" assessment by Economist magazine.
factors considered important to people's satisfaction and well-being.
They included health, freedom, unemployment, family life, climate, political stability and security, gender equality and family and community life.
The Economist said: "Ireland wins because it successfully combines the most desirable elements of the new, such as low unemployment and political liberties, with the preservation of certain cosy elements of the old, such as stable family and community life."

Look at your heritage. The Irish have always been survivors. There are probably more Irish descendents in the US than there are in Ireland.
And U2 is a good reason.

personally, i find it extremely irritating when irish/italian people flaunt their heritage. It's good to know where your roots are, but to a certain extent, so thank you for containing yourself. To be honest, I don't really know of any particular things, but you guys had St. Nicholas (sp?), and you like alcohol.
