If it was anyone else but Cosby, I wouldn't even have given it a second thought. But Bill Cosby has paid his dues, he has shown that black people can be something else besides thugs, drug addicts and criminals. So, what do you think of his views?

Dahlia, I agree with what he says. I read the other replys and of course there was one that immediately brought up his human frailty's as would be expected. I think that what he says applies to all parents and school systems. It doesn't matter what you skin color is, if you have a child then you have a responsibility to make sure that the child is learning the basics of life.Respect for self and others, respect for authority figures whether it is a teacher, a preacher, a fireman, or an officer of the law and the importance of education. He is also challenging the schools to provide quality educators for children. He is sincerely concerned for the betterment of his race. He should be, he should be proud of his ethnicity and want to see his race move forward in the world. He is trying to tell people that if they work at things they can and will succeed. Has he made mistakes as one of your answerer's pointed out, sure he has, he's human. His personal problems have been worked out and really have nothing to do with this situation. I think that his past indescretions are nothing to be ashamed of, if he learned something from them, which he seems to have done. Bill Cosby has been a better example for people more times than not.

All of Cosby's points were sound. I agree with pretty much all I heard, however, he only briefly touched on each issue. A lot of us are casting blame at the writers of these lyrics. I understand that and agree to a great extent. What we need to realize, though, is that these writers are also part of the general public. They aren't some separate species that live on Writer's Planet. They are part of our community and listen to music, watch television and do all the same things everybody else does. Writers are among the general public, so we can't just go and say that the general public is innocent and the writers are to blame. The lyrical choices of the writers came from a mind that came from the general public. All these lyrics are created by people who participate in our communities. Thus, as a community, we need to take responsibility for those lyrics just the same. The listeners may not have much control over what comes out on CD, TV or the radio, but where do you think the content comes from? The media may be glorifying the material, but the material was created by the people of our communities. Essentially we wrote these lyrics. Let's not throw blame just because it's the easiest route; let's deal with the problems. I hope people keep starring this question. Thanks for posting a question like this. Even if it sparks thought in only a few people, that's all that matters. I appreciate it. Heath

Yea, we heard all this before he ranted on all this. The problems Cosby talks about in his rants are easily applied to all races. There are thugs, addicts and criminals of a variety of races and backgrounds and this is a worldwide problem excluding none. This is a very deep and complex problem that goes back hundreds of years. A scolding from the Cos' ain't gonna make anyone go the straight an narrow if they are a thug, addict or criminal believe me. I don't think anyone can undo what is wrong in these areas by uttering words. These problems have been and will always be a part of this cruel world. Nothing really new and no new solutions that work. Tell him to have a Coke and a smile and shut the f__ up. Jello pop eating m.f.

I agree with him. I think everyone should listen, because he's right. The truth hurts the ones being criticized. I can say I am not one of those people Bill Cosby criticizes. Maybe these people should make it their goal not to be one of those people also. Just a thought.

Sure do. He's given lots of good advice in the past few years:

Stay in school
Stay out of trouble
Don't idolize prison culture
If you have a child, be a parent

This advice is good for young people of any race.

When the " people of color " evolve to CIVILIZED behavior, good things can happen. Bill Cosby is proof of that.

Read " The Bell Curve " to understand my statement. This was a SCIENTIFIC study, not a P.C. one.

Look around you. What do you see as behavior in primitive Africa? Compare that to what you see as behavior in the " people of color "in the U.S. today.

Tribalism ( gangs ). Fascination with shiny objects ( spinner rims, grillz ). Multiple wives. Incomprehensible dialects.

Maybe there is a reason no one WANTS to see.

yes and 100% yes. we live in a society were no ones knows the value and meaning of parenting especially blacks. some of them thinks that having a child is what makes you a father or a mother but that is totally wrong. some of them thinks or acts like those sports and rappers on tv and idolizes them behaving in the real world with good morals and they view education as a waste of time becomes their favorite rapper or sports star didn't attend any school and they are making all this money so they think they can.

i believe it is time for black america rich stars to stand up and lead their people to the promise land .
