Start a tax on SUV's. Ask the people why they drive the SUV, "they're safer" which is wrong, spread the word, they roll, and because everyone drives one that makes the roads more dangerous due to heavier more likely to crash vehicles, which in the end makes it not safer to drive an SUV.
I also know a way to get rid of traffic, reduce our(usa) fuel consumption by at least 40%, and slow the effects of global warming.

This may seem like a strange angle, but hear me out.

I've been alive for 23 years and for all of those my father's primary vehicle has been an SUV. He used it for offroading, plowing, and braving various blizzards in rural western Mass. Does that make him a candidate for removal from the streets? Perhaps. His usage can be justified by the "utility" in SUV.

The people who need to be challenged are the ones that shouldn't be in an SUV to begin with.

-Soccer Mom's - It kills me to see a solo person driving an Excursion (10mpg) down the freeway. If you tow a horse trailer in Wyoming then I certainly think you deserve this type of vehicle, but it is wasteful for people to substitute a minivan with an SUV.

-People living in the Sun Belt - didn't they move there to escape the brutal winters and feet of snow? If you are living in a rural area a vehicle with 4wd capability could save your life or at least make it convenient. SUVs were created to access places that your regular car could not. Most of the SUVs in the Sun Belt are 2wd!!!!!! This eliminates the utilitarian purposes of an SUV... drive a car it can do the same things but doesn't waste gas.

-People driving an SUV for the "battering ram effect" - just because it is bigger doesn't make it safer. SUV's endanger other cars on the road and are dangerous for the drivers because of roll-over possibilities.

-etc - I could go on I'm sure. SUVs should only be used by those who need them... not those who can afford them.

No reason to attack 4WD since that is a technology and could be featured in various forms of cars. Or does the asker want the rid the streets of Mitsubishi Eclipse GSXs too?

I just heard a radio story about a london town which charges more for parking the larger the vechilce. Electric cars pay nothing, small cars pay less then normal, and SUVS pay three times as much. This could work. Also gass taxes, and emmision fees

Let them drive on the sidewalks! While we're at it let's outlaw motorcycles too, and what about old cars. And pick up trucks too. Oh wait I have a better idea! Let's outlaw narrow minded people like you. Where do you get off deciding what people drive. Next you'll want to decide what they watch on tv or what they read. Attitudes like yours are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!! Get a life!

If I can be perfectly honest with you...I dont think the vehicles are the problem on the streets...Sorry to disagree with you but I think parents need to be more careful in teaching kids of all ages to be wary when it comes to cars on the roads. I also see kids playing out the fronts of houses with no secure fences and no parental supervision. I think theese issues are wat should be addressed before we try banning certain types of cars. Oh and by the way...no I dont drive a 4X4...lol

Quit whining! Oh sorry, not a debate. You can't do anything to get them off "Our" streets. They are needed. That's like telling a fat guy to get off the crowded sidewalk. Come on, get a life.
