Some of the salt comes from when the rain lands in mountains and on the ground, and flows into the ocean. While it flows on the grounds it picks up minerals, and salt is one of the easiest minerals to dissolve.

The rest of the salt comes from the combination of sodium with chlorine from underwater volcanoes.

When rain water comes in contact with rocks, the water dissolves a little bit of the minerals in the rock . When this water evaporates salt is left behind.
