NO! It is about as real as lonelygirl15. It is all fake!

But the first I saw of it was a made up documentary about the movie. They fooled me. The documentary explained how they found these tapes and some of the stories. All of it is fiction!

The directors gave them the cameras and gave them the basics and sent them on their way. Then followed them around and made piles of rocks and stuff. They even carried the tent and supplies for them. Then, the no-name actors hung low for about 6 months after the release, probably in their contract. But, you can't keep a starving actor down, and I saw them on an awards show.

Extract from a web-site:

"The release of the film on 30 July 1999 came after months of publicity, including a ground-breaking campaign by the studio to use the Internet and suggest that the film was a real event."

The Blair Witch Project story/film was fictional.

I think the entire thing is fake. It was played to look as if it was real so more people would come and see the movie. But they screwed it up when they made Blair Witch 2.

Nice, made up story. I'm sure there are actual legends but the movie it self was completely fake. The filmmakers were smart though. The trailors for the film really made it seem like the footage was real. It got alot of people's attention. Smart marketing.

The movie is made up but it's based on a legend that dates back to the witch trials.

its a made up movie...so the footage is made up as is the story, however yes they improvised and used a real camcorder but editing and clever shots with clever scripting goes a long way.

hope that helps x
