I have a 2000 mazda protege... above the defrost vent in the center of my dash the windshield is fogging up. And if I turn the heat to the floor all of the windows fog up. It's not leaking onto my floorboards. My coolant level is at the low mark. Could it be something besides the heater core? I can't find one anywhere, except the dealer for over $200!!!! Autozone, Carquest, Napa... none of them can even special order it.

Nope! No moisture on the floorboards at all. The antifreeze has been changed since I bought the car 2 years ago. I'm going to check all the hoses and make sure a connection hasn't come loose.

All the hose connections to your heater core should be at the firewall in the engine compartment. It is possible that you are getting condensation that is misting or fogging your windows. Try running the AC with the heater on in the defrost mode. The AC takes the moisture out of the air. Make sure the drain hose for the AC is also not plugged. This will build up condensation and cause the problem. Heater core should not be a problem on this year vehicle.

mazda parts are often hard to get and only come from mazda. you can get a used one but then is it worth it? no. For a 2000 protege you should have changed your antifreeze 3 times now. 2002, 2004, 2006. By doing this it keeps it clean and gunk free. Without changing it,this is how you wreck your heatercore.

I doubt it is any of the if you are getting heat out of it then it should be fine!Only thing i can tell you is that when you have it on defrost for the glass make sure the control is set to the Fresh Air setting and NOT the Re-Circulate Air.Or have the A/C button on to use the dryer system to give out a dry heat!.........Try it out and let me know............Hope That Helped!

the heater core to any vehicle is in the motor next on the passenger side next to the interior and the best way to check if it is leaking is to after driving feel the floorboard on the passenger side. always keep your heat on defrost or on circulate
