the flash-drive/thumb-drive is an external device...you buy at Best Buy etc...>>>you put it into the USB port on your computer....a little icon will pop-up on your computer telling you about the new device on your computer!

The better question is do you have one? Flash drives are usually USB devices, that serve as an external and portable storage device. If you have one installed it would show up under My computer. Or you may just have a memory stick port on your laptop or PC that would server the same purpose, but unless you have a card in the port it wouldn't show up on your system.

I reckon your computer don't recognize your flash drive.
Install Service Pack 2 if you still haven't installed it yet.
Get it here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

If you have WinXP SP 2, make sure you plugged your flash drive correctly. You computer will automatically recognize it. Open your windows explorer and you will see the additional drive.
