a new bow needs extra rosin on it especially when new, because rosin causes fine short microscopic hairs on a bow to stand up as to cause friction, which causes vibration when bowed, which causes sound. A new bow lacks that rosin. If the bow is not horse hair, the situation will be worse. Synthetic hair is worse about not wanting to make sound. Just use lots of rosin and try again.
