I'd say yes if you're not sure that you really want to get into playing long term. A lower priced guitar from Target would be good for a younger person to start out with in order to learn if he or she is into playing it.

If you are into it, you'll find out quickly that there are better guitars out there and why they're better. I'd say get the Target guitar and then play it for a while. If you like it and really start to get into it, go to some music shops and try out some of their guitars. You'll see the difference.

Of course it's ok. But, you might want to think about quality and budget.
How often do you plan on playing? Consider that a cheaper guitar sometimes (more often than not) isn't a great quality one.
Do you already play and are looking to buy one now?
Check the action on different guitars (this is the distance from the neck of the guitar to the strings) - it's easier to play if the strings are close to the neck)....
If you're getting into it for the long haul, buying at Target may not be the best plan. But if it's just a starter, go for it!

Buy a guitar at a music store and nowhere else. Not from the internet and not from a big box store like Target. Only at a guitar store. First Act is the worst crap on the planet, which is why you'll never see it at a real music store. Spend more and get a Yamaha like the FS-720S. Edited to add: Ralph is either stupid or delusional, perhaps both. He's also too much of a coward to have e-mail turned on. I never claimed to own a Mexican Taylor because I don't. First Act guitars are not made in USA. They are crap.

Getting a guitar at Target is probably fine--- Getting your guitar lessons at Target might be a problem.

NO. When you get better you will realize how much of a peice of crap a target guitar is. If you buy a crap guitar al that means is that you will eventually buy another good one.

I saw that ad also. I will be getting the electric one for my boys and myself. Learning something new is a good thing but you don't have to go broke doing it.

Depends on how seriously you're taking it. I'd go for something better, for quality of materials, and sound
