Would it be a better idea to study abroad in England/Britain or Japan? Other than the language barrier for an english-speaking student, what are the pros and cons that you know of, from studying in either area. Thanks!

Both places are great! But I think we are comparing two very different nations. Neither country has "cons," because no matter where you go to study abroad, it will be amazing. You'll experience so many things that you will never forget.
Japan: completely different culture (not only language). The food, their customs, the way they live. You'll be amaze of how such a tiny geographically country can hold such a big population (especially in the metropolitan cities). Oh! and all the cute little high tech things that the country has. You can even use your credit card in a vending machine. Probably Japanese isn't the closest language to English, but anything that is hard to learn, its highly profitable.
England: I don't see many difference between the U.S and England in terms of cultures. England has amazing architecture (old buildings). Being in the U.K makes you feel so "Harvard" =P

But if I really want to experience something totally different from what I know, I'll choose Japan.

Good Luck!! ~ enjoy everything, no matter where you go.

I love Japanese culture and want to learn to speak Japanese, but I know a girl who just got back from Japan and told me it's not as great as you would think. It's expensive, and because of tradition it's not the best place to go if you're a girl who likes to have fun and do what you want. She was getting dirty looks for going out with her guy friends when they went out, and for drinking sake with them at restaurants.

A major con of studying in Britain is that it's much more like the United States, so you will not get the cultural experience you would from spending time in Japan.

It depends on the type of education you are looking for.

1) For space and regular engineering related fields, US is better
for architecture Eastern countries are good.
for quality management, japan is good
for biotech and genetics, europe is better

2) Also apart from US, you will feel most places crowded, but people might be nicer.

3) also you should compare costs of education. For example if you study in India in IIT or IIM, you are likely to get a top global job, but the education is not that costly compared to many western countries
