I have called 2 companies and talked to 6 cust. reps. and not ONE of them spoke english well enough for me to understand them!!! I don't care if they came here from a different country but why is it WE have to speak/learn a different language in order to get a good job but they don't?! Whats wrong with this picture??? And no I am not racist, I have every cult. in my family, and yes I realize that this is what it sounds like but come on!!! Everyone wants to be fair but it really burns when we have to pay taxes on stuff and they "people that float or cross the border" get to run around in fancy cars/trucks/SUV and fancy jewlrey working the same jobs we do but hey guess what!!! We pay taxes and they don't!! We are working our butts off too and still struggling to make ends meet, but let's make life easier for them????~and yes I am pissed!!!

I worked for a cable company as a phone rep. So some companies still hire in the states. Of course, it was the worst job I've ever had, but that's how it is.

I also know people who worked in cust rep jobs overseas. Most of the people that you talked to, if not all, are not here in the US. They are in India, the Philippines, etc. And they pay them very little -- better than they would make otherwise, but hardly good enough to run around all decked out. If they don't speak English well? Well, the company hired them.

Instead of pointing the finger at people overseas, why don't you blame the parties responsible: the corporations and the government (which has failed to create incentives to keep jobs from being outsourced)?

I completely agree. I'll never understand why companies put their least-able to speak english employees in customer service positions. Particularly when it's a phone job. It makes no sense. I've noticed a trend towards even telemarketers being unable to string together a coherent sentence! As if I'm going to purchase something from someone I can't even understand. It's getting quite absurd, the level we have taken political correctness in this country. They say America is great because it is a "melting pot". Wrong. America is great because of free elections, capitalism, free speech, a powerful military, and because great thinkers have MADE it great. NOT because of letting unlimited foreigners across the border. Sorry for the tangent.

Most likely you were actually speaking to someone overseas. Many cust service jobs are being outsourced to the middle east.

The good news is that HP does...the bad news is that I was having problems with my brand new laptop.
