I have to send (within the uk) an A5 size bubble wrap protected type envelope containing a letter and a cd. It hardly weighs anything.
Royal Mail postal rates seem to be incomprehesible. Would you just chance it and stick one first class stamp on it, or should i go get it weighed? (and queue up for a couple of days in the post office)

They have a whole new system now where it's not just by weight but by size too. We had a leaflet through the door with a chart to compare sizes. You can order one online if you really want to, or just go to your post office and they will measure it.

Don't be unfair to the Post Office.
With so many different sizes and shapes being handled these days they had to introduce some form of postage that reflects their costs in processing them.
You should have received a template from the PO that would have helped you establish the correct postage. Where is it?
Go the the PO. They have a perspex one near the counter.
Determine the type of letter/package from that. Then go to the end of the counter where the scales are. Weigh it. Then just put on enough stamps - sold nearby in a machine or available from the shop counter. Won't take long.

I think it is OK on size but probably too thick (is the CD in a case?). You should pay the rate for a 'large' letter (or 'package' - I dunno - it is bloody confusing). Personally, I'd be tempted to stick a first class stamp on it and be done - just to annoy them.

In order to qualify for the ordinary First class letter it must be no bigger than 240mm x165 mm..... weigh no more than 100g and be no thicker than 5mm.
anything larger would need to be weighed.

Get a chart with the weights on it - & buy some scales to weigh it at home.

just stick a few stamps on it im sure itd b ok, they've changed the system now if you look on the royal mail website it'll tell you

take it to the post office, they will tell you there as its based on size and weight now

just pop into the post office, if it busy come back another time. Try and see if you can email instead if possible?

get it weighed,it wont cost much to send by recorded delivery,it might get lost in normal post
