Tell you what I did....
I cut back on my sugar intake & went to my upper cervical chiropractic doctor. When I am in alignment I do NOT suffer from migraines & cutting back on sugar has helped my brother stop getting them, so I did that also. I use to get them three or four times a month & I mean BAD!!!! Light sensitivity, upset stomach, screaming pain at the base of me skull, ALWAYS on the right side. Droopy right eye, sensitivity to sound, little bursts of light in my periferal... I HAD it all.... I tried potassium & my husband wanted to put me on some type of perscription, but I didn't want to do that because I knew I would throw up anything in my stomach so it wouldn't have time to work anyway.
I have NOT Had a migraine in almost a year!!!!

Back before menopause, when I was having enough migraines to disrupt all I did, I started taking standardized feverfew capsules, 280 or 350 mgs, 2 or 3 times a day. One with every meal is easy to remember. It worked very well and reduced the occurrence of headaches to one or two a month. You have to take it every day; it's a preventive. But it's cheap enough to be worth it. If you want to get a little bit technical, feverfew contains a prostaglandin inhibitor, which is similar to (but not the same as) an ingredient in aspirin. It also keeps blood cells from sticking together. You could Google feverfew and prostaglandin and read about it if you're interested. Good luck getting rid of your headaches.

A piece of dark chocolate and a diet coke when I feel a migraine coming on. I dont' know why this works but for me it does. But you have to be careful with the choclate b/c too much can make it worse.

What really works for me is firmly pulling the roots of the hair (on your head of course). Pull about one inch sections, as close to the scalp as possible in different areas. Randomly pulling different areas works best for me. It increases blood flow to the scalp and releases pressure.

Plus taking a hot shower immediately after.

I also use pressure points. Squeezing the skin (hard) between the index finger and thumb helps alleviate my headaches too.

But this is if I don't have any Aleve.

See a chiropractor. It helps me alot! Make sure you go to one who takes x-rays, the treatment is more acurate then. I also take Calcium supplaments that help my over all aches and pains.

My chiropractor helped me get over mine, and even my son who had them so bad he vomited and was sick for 2 days when he'd get one. I wouldn't go to anyone but a network doctor, though. They use gentle touch and really get the job done. You can find one local to you at www.donaldepstein.com. Good luck!

chocolate and caffiene -- can't argue with what works. a lot of people are alergic to feverfew. after changing my diet i dont' get them much though -- i just had to cut out food with lots of preservatives like hot dogs and lunch meat, soy sauce, stuff like that.
