I bought a new car a year ago, and I have been bringing it in for tune ups etc as specified by the dealership, since it's still under warrantee. But I thought this was odd, I brought it in today, and the sticker said that I was to bring it in at 21000km or on Nov 4, whichever was 1st. Now the new sticker says Jan 30 or 24000 km. I thought it was every 6 months, not every 3 months?? What is it supposed to be?

You are suppose to change your oil every three months or 3000 miles whichever comes first. There are some mechanics that say you can wait 5000 miles or 6 months, but to get more out of your car an keep the performance longer then go with the 3000 or 3 months. Your car will last you a lot longer.

It doesnt all depend on how often you change it or how many miles you put on before you change it. A main factor is the type of oil you use. You can get more out of a synthetic oil. I prefer Valvoline myself. Im sure you can get a good 6 months out of it if you only put 200-300 miles on it a month. I wish i could do the same i put 400 on mine a week :(

Generally 3 months or 3000 miles.
Many manufacturers are now going 3750 miles. And , time does matter with oil. The time sitting doesn't get fluids hot to burn off some condensation. A lot of short trips doesn't add mileage very fast , but it's hard on your engine and tranny, as well as exhaust.

Depending on the type of oil that u use... if it is Synthetic Oil u're using.. u can do up to 7,000 or 6 months... if u go to a regular Jiffy Lube of some type.. u should do it every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

Usually your first oil change is a bit longer than regular... the second time and there on its usually 3 months or 3,000 miles... but it also depends on what kind of oil you put in your car, certain more pricey oils give you a longer period btw oil changes, but to be safe ..3 months is a good time

Hi! For regular oil my rule of thumb is every 5,000kms but for synthetic oil it can go as high as 10,000kms. Oil is the lubricant of the car which reduces wear & tear of the engine. If you want to keep the car longer I recommend you try to follow my rule but if you are not planning to keep it long you can make the kms higher but will run a risk of anything. Hope I help a little. Good luck.

Every 3000 miles is what a mechanic would say. However it can go a lot longer than that. Synthetic lasts longer than conventional in mileage and time.

Also check what your manual recommends.

My Mercedes is every 12000 miles while my Volvo is every 7500 miles.

You should have it changed every 3,000 miles or every 6 months. Whatever comes first.
