i'm 13 and i've been dancing sense i was 5. i've done tap, clogging, jazz, ballet (the whole time), and pointe (my first year). next year i'm going to start lyrical/modern. i was telling you that just so you know i do have a dancing back ground. but anyway, i was just wondering how many years of collage does it take to become a dance teacher? and are there any kind of degrees or certificits required to teach dance?
thanks a bunch!

There are a couple different degrees in dance, dance education, even dance therapy. It can take anywhere from four to eight years of college depending on what kind of dance degree you plan on getting. I hope that I helped you out. It's good that you are planning early. I wish you good luck in making your dreams come true.

It depends on whether you want to teach in a school or a studio setting. To teach in a school, you most likely will need a degree in something dance-related. If you are interested in teaching in a dance studio, you don't NEED a degree, but it is not a bad thing to have. You can ask your dance teacher if she is a member of any dance education organizations. Groups like Dance Masters of America run a "teacher training course" each summer that you attend for three years. At the end, you can take an exam to become a member of the organization. I would recommend asking your teachers what is available in your area.

You don't have to have a degree to become a dance teacher but having one is good but anyways some community college offer a certificate in dance and it is designed for a person who wants to teach. but some times EXPERIENCE ALONE can help you but also sometimes nothing is required to teach dance but some companies perfer a certificate in dance so you can know exactly how the moving and muscles work while dancing and ways that you can improve flexibilty and etc.
