I want to get a nintendo DS and it says that it comes with Wi-Fi, but what does that mean? What will I be able to do with this feature? Does it cost extra to have and/or use it? How do I use it? Thanks for the help...I'm a technology idiot!! lol

Wi-Fi, as others have said stands for "wireless fidelity". In laymen's terms it means "wireless internet".
You can use it to play against other people with your DS. It doesn't cost any money to have it or to use it, but you either need to be in a place with WiFi/wireless Internet, or in a "Nintendo Hotspot".
You can also play "ad-hoc", which means that 2 DS's connect wirelessly to play without a wireless hotspot.

The expression "Wi-Fi" is for "Wireless Fidelity" and is a standard for wireless networks for data transmission. A person with a Wi-Fi enabled device such as a computer, cell phone or PDA can connect to the Internet when in proximity of an access point. The region covered by one or several access points is called a hotspot. Hotspots can range from a single room to many square miles of overlapping hotspots. Wi-Fi can also be used to create a mesh network. Both architectures are used in community networks, municipal wireless networks like Wireless Philadelphia, and metro-scale networks like M-Taipei. It was developed to be used for mobile computing devices, such as laptops, in LANs, but is now increasingly used for more services, including Internet and VoIP phone access, gaming, and basic connectivity of consumer electronics such as televisions and DVD players, or digital cameras. More standards are in development that will allow Wi-Fi to be used by cars in highways in support of an Intelligent Transportation System to increase safety, gather statistics, and enable mobile commerce. There are no extra costs to you when you can connect to a hot spot.

It doesnt cost extra.. Wi-Fi is just wireless network/internet .. if you have a wireless router already at your house, then you can use that wireless signal for your DS.

It's Wireless Internet, prolly so you can play games online against other people, however I think you may still need to pay for a service if you want to use it.
