I'm going to give you a few here, but my first answer is the winner in my eyes.

Digable Planets - "The Rebirth of Slick/Cool Like Dat"

When they came out, critics were fawning all over them. Lots of praise got heaped on them for a very short period of time and people seemed to love the jazz-influenced, understated way they formulatred songs and the breeziness of their lyrics. And then.....nothing. It sucks too, because they were a really fresh sounding group with tons of talent. but media was writing them up as the rebirth of rap music, and the hype just didn't translate into mainstream success.

Runners up:
Til Tuesday - "Voices Carry"
Amy Mann had a nice little indie solo career after the band broke up, but this song was a gigantic hit in the early 80s that they never even came close to duplicating. Mann was clearly the star of the band and she broke off to go olo.

Faith No More - "Epic"
FNM is technically classified as a one hit wonder, but they have a fantastic body of work. Its just that "Epic" is the only song that ever charted. But, their follow-up album, Angel Dust, might be one of the 10 best rock records of the 90s. They just weren't going to acheive the kind of mainstream success they had with "Epic".

Blues Traveler - "Run Around"
Another band that had one big hit, so they technically qualify, but their catalog is still pretty solid and they have a rabid fan base. "Run Around" is a truly great song, but how many 400-lb harmonica players that front bluesy jam-bands is MTV really going to show?

The Toadies - "Possum Kingdom"
A song that was a love song to vampires that live in a swamp, or something thereabout. The Toadies rode a mid-90s college rock revival that landed them their only real hit. They took quite a few years to release their follow-up (the equally twisted "Hell Below, Stars Above) which was pretty wicked itself. But, the market had changed by then and passed the Toadies by.

Hope this sparks some discussion...Enjoy!

The singer YAZZ was the most gifted one hit wonder that never attained her full potential.
The song The Only Way Is Up, is a classic.
I can only think that we were on the verge of Brit Pop when it was a hit and maybe the kids wanted something different.

hmm...i'm going to speak like a couple months in the future and say Cassie is a one-hit wonder cuz her new single has been out for 2 months and isn't even on the charts. She really can't sing that well...no range or anything. She's hot though.

Peter Frampton was a one album wonder, he never could top Frampton Comes Alive.
He was so popular for that, I think people got sick of hearing him.

For me it has got to be Chesney Hawkes with "I am the one and only". I love that song and can't help dancing whenever I hear it.
