What are the little switches by the tuners?..Is it just a cheap @ss bass and do those make it look like it?

Yes it's a Viola bass, no matter what company you get it from it'll be light as a feather and thus not a really good solid bass.

the switches there might make it look cheap, but it makes it sound unique... I personally would get Epiphone, but that's just because I'm an Epiphone player.

cheers,

-Kwan

p.s.- every Viola bass has those switches.

The picture is of a really cheap copy of a really great bass guitar. The switches control which pickups are in use, and also add a filter. Hofner, a German company make the original, as used by Paul McCartney when he was in the Beatles (and he still uses one occasionally). The European made models are quite expensive, but they now have a factory in China that makes a much cheaper model. Epiphone produce a version as well. the Bass has a solid centre, but the sides are hollow. This combination gives a good sound, but lighter weight (think Gibson 335).

I'd shy away myself as Rogue's are not exactly 'Top of the line' instruments by any stretch of the imagination. If it's a Viola bass (also known as a Beatle bass after the one Paul McCartney played) that you desire I'd shop eBay. There are loads of them on there and you should be able to score one for under a $100. Oh, almost forgot about the switch's. They're for tone and such and yes, IMO they do make it look cheap! Good luck and happy shopping.
