I take them away and check them for any damaged items.

Also, I only take them to people in the neighborhood that I know.

This year I went to the dollar store and got small toys...cars, and a whole bag of plastic rings...in addition to the small candy that I give out...and only to my neighbors and the parents come up on the front porch to say hi!

I gave out the plastic halloween rings before and the kids like them...especially orange spider rings...$1.00

Although there is reason for concern, there's no reason to go to that extreme.

All you have to do is GO WITH your kids (you can even dress up too if you want) while they Trick-or-Treat so that you can steer them to safer looking houses (like ppl u know personally), know where they got what candy and then check it very closely when you get home for any signs of tampering...THAT's the stuff that can be deep sixed!!!

If you're that worried about it, just take your kids to a shopping mall to T-o-T or to a group function such as a party or community celebration.

I don't want to go into a long spiel about this, but when I used to go trick or treating I'd get store bought candy, and homemade treats like popcorn balls, cookies, and cupcakes. We never had to worry about any tampering. These days if you get homemade stuff, it's usually tossed. Parents have to check all the candy, and some even take it to a police department to be scanned. It's a strange world, and it seems to be getting worse by the day.
