The local dealer said they have worked very little on Goldwings so said troubleshooting it could be very expensive..do you have any suggestions?

you are aware i hope that the cruise control only works in 4th and 5th gear?

Yes don't use it cause using cruise control it uses alot of gas believe me I know I used mine & it ate up almost a whole tank of gas.
