Belk treats white people well.I didnt think Belk was so racist be4 until what happened to me n I am Chinese.
I went to the store earlier this month with my mom. I didnt walk with her all the time and i went to the jewelry section. I saw 2 pairs of earrings and couldnt decide which pair i should purchase. So i held them with my right hand and pulled out my phone from my purse with my left hand to ask my mom for opinions. So i purchased one of them and when i was exiting a store,a lady came to me n asked to c the earrings.i didnt know who she was but she kept pulling my purse n searching it.then I figured out she worked there. She said i put the earrings into my purse.I kept saying that i did not do it n asked her to show me the video for many times. I hv purchased the earrings and got a receipt. So I talked to the manager n he believed was right. They did not show me the video n wouldnt apologize even though I asked them to. My sister kept complaining to Belk n never got a responce.

I am sure that I didnt put anything into my purse and they kept saying that I did. Moreover, before this happened, the workers there did not treat me with politeness.

I have worked for Belk in the past and I can tell you that many of their practices favor white people, employees and shoppers alike. They tell you to watch black or minority shoppers and I think that you should have a lawyer look in to what happened to you.
Minority youth especially get watched closer. I can tell you from the inside that they have some very questionable policies, but because they are based in the south and are mostly located in the south, where there are no consumer protection laws they get away with it.

It's not racism. There is no accurate profile for shoplifters and in retail the biggest shoplifters are the employees.
They are "trained" to keep an eye on specific items and watch for specific behaviour. When I shop for bras/panties it takes awhile for me to make up my mind. After a while security shows up and follows me around. When accosting you at the door, they are alwasy rude and the stores never take responsibility for it.

I would return the earrings, write a letter to the highest managing level of customer service (I've never heard of belk's I dont' know if it's nationwide) and make sure they know you got your money back for the merchandise and that you and your friends and family will no longer shop there.

I dont think that what they did was racist. Cameras and the security people are looking for people that may be making suspicious movements and are not able to get exact detail on their monitors. What happened to you is very common. They didnt see you put back the second pair of earings. Believe me, retailers dont very often look for orientals as being theifs because most people know that orientals are quite honest people. Im sorry you had to have this experience.

In general when handling merchendise in a store, dont put you hands to close to you pockets, purse, etc because someone is watching you ( where in public or in secret). Look but dont touch unless you are seriously thinking of buying something.
Dont go back there to purchase anything. They dont deserve your money if they will not take you seriously.

well i think its certain stores but this can happen any where.in the city i live in many white people go in the same dressing room at one time but let some people or any body elses thats not white try that sh*t theyll met cho a*s at the door to make sure you didnt leave nothing behind (hangers or beepers). but i think if most the people who work there are mostly from one ethinic group and your not from it most likely youll be a victim to being followed.

This doesn't make the store racist. If loss prevention personnel believed you may have put something in your purse, then they have every right to ask you for your receipt, etc.

Try resolving or getting your apology from their corporate offices.

I'm sorry that happend. That does sound very racist. I suggest you write a note to the head of the corporation. Maybe they will look into the problem.

Wow.
I'd report them to the Better Business Bureau.
And perhaps write a letter to your local newspaper or news station telling them what happened.
And write to the corporate office telling them you will be doing so.

It might not be racist. But it would surely piss me off.
