I have the same problem at my dorm. I've notice that if you keep your place pretty clean they will go away. There's not much else that you can do. My roommates are very messy when they cook (they are girls and sometimes I wonder if I live with boys) and leave crumbs and food particles all over the floor and counters.

Also if you have a lot of live plants around your house, they may also be the reason why you get the little black flies everywhere. I think they are called gnats. I believe they live in the plants so maybe you can put the plants outside or spray those pesticides on them outside. Leave them outside all day away from the baby and pets and see how it goes...

Just try to keep it clean as possible but like the person said above, by winter they should die out. Good luck!

If you live near the woods, and these flies like to buzz around your head, they maybe "deer flies" I hate them too.

Not much you can do other than trying to keep them out in the first place with good screening on the doors and windows.

DEET (Like in deep woods OFF brand) can be rubbed on you, but not your baby. Put a mosquito net over the baby's crib and play pen. Use loose fitting clothes for the baby that covers as much skin as possible.

These flies may carry disease, so a little pesticide may be better than risking a bite. Just a thought.

If they are like tiny fruit flies, get a disposable plastic cups and fill about a quarter to half way with apple cider vinegar. Place 2 of these where ever they are the most. The flies are attracted to the smell and will drown in it. When winter actually sets in, they will die out.

It sounds like gnats or fruit flies....put 2 oz of cider vinegar in a small juice glass and add two drops of dishwashing soap, leave this set for a few days and look in the bottom of the glass, you will see a bunch of them, I put this mixture in several rooms of my house this year and it solved the problem...
