You don't have to go on 3-4 months in advance.. it is fully effective after a month. On the other hand, some women react badly to the pill at first, so it's good that you are planning ahead!
I'd suggest a combination pill, containing both estrogen and progestin, unless your doctor says otherwise due to health issues you aren't mentioning here. Ortho-tri-cyclen Lo (a lower-dose version of the more common Ortho-tri-cyclen) is my personal fave, but there are a lot of good ones out there. Ask for something that has a generic equivalent, if possible... the pill can be irritatingly pricey if your health insurance doesn't cover it. Congratulations for taking charge of your health... and good luck in your marriage!

I think that your doctor will usually make the best recommendation for you. Atleast that's what my doctor did. I do recommend a low dose combo pill though. I personally take Alesse (21 day pack) and I love it. My periods were better and I've been on it since I was married (2 yrs) and it hasn't failed me yet. =) Just go over your options with your doctor. I have heard some bad things about the depo shot. My sister was on her period for 3 months straight after she got the shot.

Here are several of the recommended places to obtain medicines without giving up too much from your finances.
1. Rite-Aid, Walgreen's, or CVS Pharmacy. These organizations have discount generics programs. Regular buyers or present members can easily sign up for a savings pass. Registering only costs $10 a year for CVS while a Walgreen membership fee costs $20.
2. Online Canadian pharmacies- Many online pharmacies offer unbelievably affordable prices for generics. Some of these businesses say they are working in Canada. Unfortunately, many of these are frauds and are probably operating in developing nations.
If you decide to buy online, purchase only from sites that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Web drugstores that are not approved by the FDA typically deliver fake pills that have no effect or entirely compromise one's health. You can also refer to online pharmacy reviews, which are sent by past or present customers. Though ordering cheap medicine online is easy, ordering from a scam pharmacy will just waste your cash or even worsen your condition. Also some Canadian Pharmacies with affordable prices.
