First off, before you get a pet, make sure you have the money and time to do it. Most pets require some amount of maintanence and money. Also, make sure you are willing to love and care for it.
As to what kind of pet you should get fits your personality and your budget. If you have a lot of spare time and money and are willing to give a lot, then a dog or cat is a great pet.
If you want something with medium maintanence with an average amount of time and money, get a bird or a rat. I've never had a bird, but I do have a few rats. They do require more attention and money than a hamster or gerbil, but less than a dog or cat.
If you are strapped for cash or low on time or you just want a simple pet, I suggest a gerbil or a hamster. They're cute and cuddly and don't cost all that much to care for.
I hope this helps some.

Get a cat. They may not be soaring over you always like a puppy, you do not need to allow them to external always such as you do with a puppy. Cats are aloof and that makes a few folks consider they're egocentric. But whilst you're having a fairly dangerous day and you return house to cry, the cat will run over to you, headbutt your cheek and purr your tears away. They are cute whilst they are gambling- my cats love my shoelaces satisfactory as toys and it is hilarious to look one in every of them leap 2 or 3 toes off the bottom simply to assault a flying shoelace.

1)You could get a stuffed pet, pros of it are you don't have to feed it or bathe it.
2) You could get a turtle
3) You could get tadpoles and keep in a fish tank til they become frogs, then have a frog race.
4) You could taranchla spider, my son had one, he had to feed it crickets and bugs everyday.
5) You could get chickens and eventually you can hear the rooster crow every morning and sometimes in the night and you could have fresh eggs.
6) You could get fish in a fish tank, a fighting fish doesn't require a bubbler. Most other fish do best with a bubbler.
7) You could keep a pet lizard.
8) Or you could have an imaginary pet.
Your limit is your immagination for a pet.

If you want a companion who loves you unquestioningly, get a dog. If you want a pet who is (usually) more aloof and independent, get a cat.

That depends on your budget and space. What are your interests? You also need to think about how much attention you can give.
