how do I get the answer for an unknown equation, like 5 +3x - 2(x - 4) = 8x - 7x?
x = ?

on a TI -83 plus calculator

5 + 3x - 2(x - 4) = 8x - 7x
5 + 3x - 2x + 8 = x
x + 13 = x
0x = 13
x = 13/0

x = unknown

The TI-83 plus won't be able to calculate this. If there was a Y variable, then you might be able to find the zeros for X and Y.

u can't. it would be too easy on tests, and if a calculator has that function it will most likely be banned for school and test use.
