it is true, but it only happens when there is a cut or tear. Also they give u a numbing shot so that there is no pain, only a light pulling sensation. Trust me after the labor, getting stiches is NOTHING! I've had them twice and it really is no big deal

Sometimes during a vaginal birth, a doctor will perform an episiotomy. This is an incision made to enlarge the vaginal opening to ease the birth process and possibly prevent tearing. After the birth of the baby and the expelling of the afterbirth the incision is stitched up. Generally before the incision is made you are given a shot of a local anesthetic so you don't feel the incision nor the stitching, although I could feel the pulling of the needle even though it was not too painful. You may also need some stitches even if you do not get an episiotomy since there can be tears during the birth. Your vagina is not really affected, but the skin at the base of your vagina is where the episiotomy or tears would occur. Not every birth requires an episiotomy nor are there always tears without an episiotomy. I had 4 babies. I did not have an episiotomy with my 4th child nor did I have any tears.

Well, if you rip when the baby is born, or if the Dr. makes an episiotomy, then yes, they will have to stitch you up. I'm not sure what you mean by natural birth. If you mean not via c-section and with no epidural for pain relief, then yes you will be awake, and you will feel the stitches. If you have an epidural, then you will be awake, but won't feel a thing when the Dr. gives you the stitches. I had an epidural when I had my daughter, I highly recommend them, everything was so much nicer and exciting when I wasn't in pain anymore.

It depends on whether or not you tear during birth, Or if you have an episiotimy. But from personal experience, I don't remember being stitched up after wards, They usually do it immediately after birth, And in my case, I was too busy holding my new bundle of joy to pay attention to what they were doing down there! :-)

they only stitch any tears or the episiotomy - the mom would be given a local shot to deaden the area just before the baby is born - the pressure from the head keeps her from even feeling the shot - there is no discomfort and the mom is too busy enjoying the first moments of her baby's new life to even notice or care

Yes thats true unfortunatly the only other way is a C section.
But when they do give you the stitch they give you an epidural which will take the pain away the shot does go into your spine however

if they make a cut, they have to stitch it back up. very painless, after you go through the child birth process, you don't feel the stitching process. However, more and more doctors these days are not even cutting. God bless

They numb you first, but my doctor said they do it while you're awake because your muscles aren't so pliable and they can match things up better. I'm not a doctor, but in a way it makes sense to me.

Only if you have an episiodomy, that is not always done, if they do do one they will just stitch up where they cut you, you are awake, but do not feel it, they normally inject a numbing agent
