hyper novas or pulsars...hard to say since we still don't know a lot about either

The first couple of Answerers are wrong. The sun is not the hottest energy source in the universe.

Shrykull is also wrong. The surface temperature of a red giant star is not several million degrees, but only about 3000 degrees.

The guess about the supernova is better. Another good guess would be the inner accretion disk of a black hole. Then there are the quasars, whatever they are.

The hottest energy source in the 'known universe' is when a sun (the bigger the hotter) comes to its final stages of life (Red Giant). Hear the sun expands thousands of times its own size.

An example of a Red Giant is the star Betelgeuse. Its surface temperature alone is 3,500,000 degrees celcius. A big number compared to our sun's 4,000 degrees surface temperature.

As for supernovas, a star generally starts to cool down after a supernova, so it's not the hottest.

Mind you, Red Giants are the hottest things KNOWN to men. Who knows? There might be hotter things out there.

Hope this helped.

The hottest ever was the big bang, but that has cooled down to just about 4 degrees K since. Now, I believe it wold be super novae and if not that, the core of a blue giant star.
