My internet access will stop working after the computer has been on for a few hours (not online just the computer being on).I have DSL and it will say I'm connected but nothing internet related will work. I then have to restart the computer and everything's fine. It's not really a big deal to have to do this but it confusess me. Can anyone give a guess as to why this is happening?

DSL sucks, get cable. But really it could be anything from the modem overheating, to a bad connection, to your phone company putting a timeout function in place, etc. Good luck and get cable.

DSL has to be the worst internet service ever....

Do you have a router? If so....it automatically keeps your DSL connection live by logging in for you. A simple firmware upgrade to the router could solve your problem.

How far are you from you local telco? DSL has line limitations and works off the other 2 strands of copper within your phone line. With these tiny copper strands you can only run DSL with signifigant speed if your close to your telco. (basically a switching facility owned by your phone company)

I break it down this way :
1 to 2 miles to telco -- advertised speed
3 to 5 miles reduced speed
Over 5 miles ....... dial up speed

Go with Comcast

u may have virus or spyware on the computer. try to scan using some antivirus and antispyware software.
contact ur internet service provider and check with them whether they have any issues in their side.
finally u can uninstall the whole os and reinstall it so that it may work fine after that. but always have the updated antivirus and antispyware in ur computer.

confirm you haven't any longer been hacked... do you have the router's admin section secure via a password you created or is it nonetheless on the default password? Do you have instantaneous encryption enabled? WPA or WPA2? confirm you're actually not leaving it open and available to the associates' script-kiddie teen.

Might want to check your network card (NIC), perhaps put a new one in and see if that doesn't fix your problem.

instead of restarting, right click your connection tab and hit the repair button...
