Very free.
Look at the freedoms afforded the average Chinese, Saudi, Iranian or Cuban.
This land of ours, is truly the beacon on the hill, and all other societies, past, present and future, would be measured against the amazing and rapid progress our American civilization has achieved, while painstakingly evolving from a slavery-supporting upstart in the 18th century, to an economic and technological powerhouse that, it appears, is rife with myopic dissenters who take the cost of our freedoms for granted, and revel in self-loathing and apologist daydreams.
This is the greatest achievement of humanity to date, our United States of America, and by no definition can you find a society organized and prolonged as well and as secure as ours. We are indeed the very definition of human emancipation.

Are you kidding me? Bear with me for a second. We have more laws than almost any other country, which isn't bad, as long as they make sense and don't bear upon "choice". The reality is that what we have is far from total freedom. It's better than communist china of course, but communist china is an extremely bad example. Duh. I am amazed at how many people have determined that we are free simply by comparing us to a bunch of under-aged worker sweat shops in some desolate wherehouse in south korea. Fact is most other parts of the world are not like that at all. Yes we are richer compared to other countries, but what we earn has nothing to do with how free we are, and in some aspects even furthers the degree to which we are slaves financially. We are payed for the work we do, and if we don't work we die. Haha. True freedom is the ability to do what you please given that the only person you may harm, if at all, is yourself. I wouldn't personally choose to smoke marijuana even if it were legal, but I believe I should have the right to if I desired. I should also have the right to cross the street in between crosswalks, and have an open can of beer in my hand while I did so, if I pleased. I should have the right to have access to uncensored media on the television and radio, especially if I'm willing to pay for it. Not simply porn, but newscasts of events the way they occured without being drastically edited on behalf of someone deciding it's too graphic for my viewing. I am not a child. I've spent many years in other countries where these things were a reality, where I could truly do as I pleased without hurting or upsetting anybody. Compared to this I cannot consider us as being "free".

We are not FREE!
We have some freedom to choose some things, but all else when you look at it ALL...we are not so free as many may think. What freedom that we do have is being taken away/forced away before our very eyes, moment by moment, day by day. It won't be long until there are major changes that will affect our every move, many have already been implemented.
The average american is kept way too busy in order to prevent them to time to research and find out what really is and has been going on.

Well you were free to ask this question - you are free enough to discuss politics on line - you are free to discuss religion - you are free to have your own oppion and stand behind it, and verbally let everyone else know how you feel - you are free to persue your dream and no one will stand in your way - especially your own government - How many other freedoms can you think of - I guess we do live in the most free country known to human kind - or would you rather live in China - Hay, your even free to do that if you want to - I believe that is good enought - don't you think ?

an oxymoronic phrase anymore since the patroit act. check out prisonplanet.com and infowars.com where the truth is exposed. I lived in New Zealand for 3 years as my wife is Maori, and can tell you they are much more free. They also are free of prejudice and treat their native people much more respectfully than us American Indians receive

Comparatively, very, very free. Right now we are in a scary time, but we will defeat those elected officials who have made horrible decisions, and impeach the man who thinks he can take away our freedoms. Vote.
