in the 60's we protested Vietnam we knew how to put PRESSURE on world governments. Tell me if the whole world went on strike where would that leave them? Mass walkouts? Are we really that apathetic that we think that by sitting on our butts the world will change for the better? I think not IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU. Bring back the age of protest and strikes for what WE believe in and what WE want as a world community not what BIG BROTHER tells us to do. Ever feel like you are busy being told what to do by people who actually have NO IDEA.

It all comes down to CAPITALISM. Capitalism has been winning the war against democracy since the 80's, when consumerism (did I say consumerism? I meant consumptionism) increased to an explosive rate. The more Western Countries have taught their offspring to buy buy buy, & the more the corporations have discovered global expansion to teach new generations that they can't go without more material things, the more everyone is too placid to make change through protest because our need for greed is a learned subliminal decree. We are products of our environment & too which each generation will follow.

Protesting and striking never helped anyone. When people protested the Vietnam war, it didn't put a stop to it. And if the whole world were to go on strike, I would show up at work extra early the next day. People think that by making a scene things get better. Yes, you get heard, but half of the people who hear you think you are a fool. Just remember, WE decided we wanted a government to make choices for us. And WE put ourselves in the position to have "Big Brother" tell us what to do. And I don't feel like I'm being told what to do by following the law. I don't feel constricted at all. Maybe that's because I know that putting pressure on the government wouldn't help. It would just shine a bad light on me...

It's hard to get much going now that the Soviet organizers are gone. The Chinese aren't as interested in getting Americans to go against the US self-interest when they are trying to keep the folks down at home.

Most of us realize that we were misled and did stupid things while under the influence back then in our youth. It's kind of embarrassing to admit now.

Besides, do you want to be forced into Islam? Is that your ideal?
Because they definitely have ideas on how the world should be run: Sharia Law. As a woman who can read, write, vote, drive and go out of my home without a male escort, I don't want that future! That is the very definition of Big Brother: the Morals Police.

No one has even attempted to tell me what to do in decades. I'm well skilled in self rule. Maybe you really haven't grown up yet if you aren't there yet.

what did it help?
nothing.
the war still lasted until 1975.
the only thing the sixties protests did was make our society condemn our soldiers as murderers.
alot of them were violent protests...which in my opinion defeated their peaceful purpose.
having walkouts affect only you...are you willing to take food out of your childs mouth because you walked out of you job in protest of the government?
or is it ok to do that because the government your protesting against will give you food stamps?
or how would you like to have spent alot of money for your childs education and the instructors go on strike because of protest?
is that right?
We lost the Vietnam war because of protest....
whether or not our government is right or wrong...I'm a firm believer in...
United we stand..Divided we fall!
Unfortunately our country is so divided in beliefs right now we can't come together and get the job done.
We should band together..get the job done..get out...and then iron out our differences.
this constant bickering is making the war last longer and killing more Americans each day.

In a previous job I was always being told that the union was on strike and that as a union member I should also strike. Where is the sense in having a job and not being able to make enough money to live.

The great majority of protesters in the 60's were still living on/with their parents. You would think that those same idealists would be ready to jump on the protest bandwagon, but they've sold out and spend their time worrying about where retirement income is invested. Instead of pushing for peace and love... they are pushing for a place in line at the cash register to buy something else on credit. (Sigh)

The younger people (Gen x, etc.) are protesting... but there needs to be an Abby Hoffman to step up and organize. I believe the ingredients are there for the protests... but we need direction.

I guess apathy won.besides the warwas just away to keepthe classes seperate. When you have to struggle everyday just to keep a roof or food or perhaps have to make a choice between one or the other, seems to me the pawns in your fight agaist big brother are either dying in some desert somwhere or just dying in the streets here .
