Most colleges will have two semesters in a year. The word semester essentially means that the school year can only be divided into two smaller periods. If they have three periods within the school year, they'll be referred to as trimesters.

2 semester, but college is different, they just use semesters, not years. You could get your degree in as little as 2 years if you take a whole bunch of credit hours.

This can vary greatly from one school to the next. Semester generally implies two, but schools can have anywhere from two to five (Fall, January/Winter, Spring, and 2 Summers). I go to a school with three: Fall, J-Term, and Spring. There are a few summer courses, but they're mainly research-oriented positions.

Two....with the exception of summer classes. But the standard semester year is two terms. Those on a trimester basis have three terms.

Typically a spring and a fall one. Often there is a summer one [or two] which has fewer weeks but more periods per class. Some schools also have an interim one around the holidays (similar to summer school but held in midwinter.)

In my experience, there are two *full* semesters in a year. There can be any number of partial semesters depending on the school.

two. the word semester comes from the root semi, which means split in two. If you mean three, you would say trimester. Four is referred to as quarters.
