cotton used to be grown in the southern states, but I heard there was some mold problem, so now the cotton or part of the cotton comes from overseas. And it's cheaper to be grown overseas now.

most of southern states grew cotton, like Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and so on
