My cousin, his wife, and 4 kids were living with my grandpa since my grandma died. They were supposed to be taking care of him, and we recently went into the home and found it to be revolting and smell of drugs. It's my grandpa's home, and he was afraid to kick them out because they threatended to take away his great-grandkids. My grandpa is also starting to lose his mind a little. Anyways, they tore up the house and everything in it. They abused my grandpa by hitting him, and trying to OD him on pills. He is now in a nursing home, and we've kicked out my cousin and his family. But I was wondering what else we could do as far as the damages, the abuse, and also my cousins wife got ahold of my grandpa's check book, and wrote a bunch of checks and signed my grandpa's name. Any idea's on this about how to do something with these evil people. They need to pay for what they have done!!

Before we actually got into the house we didn't know about the abuse...my grandpa again is a little out of it sometimes. These people have no money...that's why they have children is to get money from the state. And those poor kids pay for it big time. We're also going to report them to DFS. But we're thinking the house is forever trashed. There is mold 2 inches thick in the bathroom. If we sue them for damages they don't have any money really. But we want them to pay for the abuse and the fraud of checks. We had no idea this was happening. We live so far away, and thought he was being taken care of until recently.

They aren't Power Of Attorney thank god. We got to that before them. That's how we kicked them out.

Contact Senior Services. Also, inform the police and your grandfather's bank about the checks. Make sure the social worker at the nursing home is aware of the situation too. Make sure that your cousins are not Power of Attorney or executor to your grandfather. The Senior Services or the Social worker at the nursing home will be able to help you with that.

I worked in a nursing home for 9 years. Believe me, I saw all kinds of abused elderly come into our facility. We were able to help. Good Luck to you and to your grandfather.

You need to report they asses to the police, make a formal complaint and press charges if you can... its always good to have the report already on you when you go to the police with a regular paper and pen sit down and explain with details all the horrible things they did to your grandpa and name the people you would like to be responsable by their names and last names... doing this at home gives you the advantage of really sitting down and explain with extreme details all the damage the hitting everything..cause that is what their going to give you in there a paper and they going to ask you to make the statement if you already have it done it will make things easier on you and them.. but to the biach who wrote those checks make a separate statement because what she did is way worst than braking things in this poors man house.. this is called forgery and its a felony and the worst crime to beat sense she made the signatures and you can prove the signature is a fake by simply showing a signature of your grandpas and one of hers and the police will take care of that... she will be in jail in no time...take charge and please report this at once. You also have a STRONG CASE OF ELDELRY ABUSE...educate your self on this and do what ever is in your power to nail this trash.... This is something so bad it just makes my blood boils... hope you make them face their terrible crimes.. good luck... and may god bless your dear grandpa... I hope he is in a good facility..

As far as abuse, this should have been reported at the time. I'm glad he is in a facility that can provide him with care now.
As far as the checks, that is illegal and you should contact the police and take out a warrant for theft by unlawful taking.

Talk to the police if you have proof of what you say! These are felonies and can be prosecuted.
