Most, if not all of the people that think Harry Potter is evil also take the Bible literally. It would reason, then, that they take every work of fiction the same way.
They believe that the Devil worked through the hands of the author of "Potter" just as they believe God worked through the hands of the Bible writers to provide a literal manuscript.
This doesn't mean theat these people are bad. They are simply taking one thing that they believe is true and literal and applying the same parameters to another, perhaps similar, writing.
I think that if you were able to poll these people, and if they were to tell you the truth, they probably never read "Potter" and are going by what their friends and religious leaders tell them- who themselves probably never read the books.

I have to say that apart from a great story, JK Rowling is a very good writer as well.
