might be an O2 sensor...if there area any check engine lights on, go to autozone and have them check the diagnostics(its free, dont worry) if it has alot of hesitation every now and then, then its more than likely the o2 sensor. they tend to go quite often on the 01-05 hondas, not sure why, but i personally hate it...

Well that 2000 Accord was rated at 20 city/28 highway. So combined gas mileage is about 24. Thats right about where you are, so its kinda the expected gas mileage. Plus the car is 8 years old, its not going to be as efficient as it was from day 1, cars slowly loose efficiency over time as engine wear does increase. If you still think you are getting "bad" gas mileage, you can try changing the o2 sensors on it, see if that helps. But if you ask me, it seems you are throwing money at a situation which isn't going to get much better.

The first thing to try is to run some fuel injection cleaner through one tank of gas and change the air filter and possibly the fuel filter.
After that you will want to change the oxygen sensor.
If none of that works you'll probably need to take it into the dealer.
btw--your right. My 96 accord getts 24-28mpg

could be a number of things... i had a jeep, which got less gas milage than it was suppose to. turns out, it needed a tune up. so try that to start with. if you have a boyfriend/husband that knows how to work on cars... you could probably by the parts and have him put them on... which would be a lot cheaper. all ya need is plugs and wires, distributor and fuel filter i think.

cars are desgined to perform at a certain level. in order to maintain that level, you will have to maintain your car well. get a scheduled service which includes at a minimum...
1. cleaning your fuel injectors
2. replacing your air filter
3. replacing your fuel filter
4. replacing your spark plugs
think of your car as a human body. if you want to run a marathon, you definitely have to keep your body in good shape. if you smoke or generally don't take care of your body, then your performance in that marathon will be greatly diminished. your car needs to be taken care of just like your own body.
