I don't know that much about disposable diapers, but I know for certain that they make cloth diapers for bigger babies.
There is an organization called Miracle Diapers that helps low income families who are starting out with cloth diapers by supplying them with a small stash of cloth diapers. Their website is down until tomorrow, but if you fall within their financial requirements, perhaps they could loan you a few different types of diapers to sample.

If he is 9 months he should start walking soon and he will slim up a bit when he does. My nephew was also a breast baby and he was a little chunk until he started moving around. I don't think they make bigger sizes but some diapers might be made larger just like clothing brands. I am not brave enough to try cloth diapers so good luck!

A cloth diaper service might be the thing to try. It's usually something like $17 a week (about the same as a pack of disposables) and that way if you decide you don't like them or they don't fit you can cancel it. Try this website http://www.diapernet.org/index.htm it is the National Association of Diaper Services webpage. They can help you locate a service in your area and give you other useful information.

I used DyDee Diaper service, they have larger diapers for kids over 25-30 pounds. I don't think they gave samples though. Try Ebay for diaper covers, Babies R Us has cloth diapers to buy in small packages.

I used cloth diapers for all four of my kids. They wore cloth diapers until they were potty trained. I usually used two flat diapers with a prefold. You just fold the flat diapers to fit. You will also need plastic pants. I sometimes used disposable diaper liners. It keeps the baby drier and makes the diaper easier to clean.

Wow! You do have a big boy. Congrats! I use Kushies All in One for my daughter who is 13 months and 20 lbs. she's little. I bought her diapers on www.thanksmama.com but you could try e-bay to try them for super cheap. The Kushies go on like disposable but you do need a doubler. I use Mother of Eden doublers. She has been in the same size cloth diapers since she outgrew size 1 disposable. They do have one size larger I'm hoping that will work. Do try e-bay.

Cloth diapers fit all sizes of babies. You fold them to fit the size your baby is at the time.

Check out this site http://www.upkb.com/diapers.php for free diapers and wipes. The best brands for me are those with Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, because it's mild and soothing to sensitive baby skin.
