I know someone who wants to do it, but apart from being unbelievably cruel, i thought it was illegal? Please help!

yes it is...I had a friend in Oklahoma that raised mice and rats for the snakes in the zoo...made a bunch of money doing it...and I think it is cruel too...but, people will do anything for money....

Sorry it is entirely legal. Mice are a staple food item for many snakes. Cats and dogs would be another matter. Also, it is not cruel to breed mice to feed a snake. They are its natural food source and are necessary to allow the snake to survive. Don't know where you got the idea of its legality.

It's not illegal, and it's no more cruel than starving the snake. Snakes are very fussy creatures and many will only eat live food. Mice are one of the best foods for snakes.

I breed my own rodents for my snake. they're raised to die yet they stay the life of luxury till that day. I certainly have 13 snakes and non of them will eat frozen thawed. the rationalization we are allowed to feed stay is as a results of the fact no longer all snakes will settle for frozen thawed animals. What are we to do with those that purely will eat stay condemn them to dying via ability of starvation. and how they use to kill mice and rats is greater suffering than being squeezed via a snake. They use gas chambers to kill rodents which suffocates them and that they are alive for roughly 3 minutes. With a snake the squeezing they're lifeless interior 2 minutes and knocked out interior 15 seconds.

My daughter breeds her own mice to feed her snakes. But I know large scale breeders have to meet enviroment guidelines (apparently lots and lots of mice are an air quality issue...)

No, it's not illegal.. snakes serve a purpose in nature, to rid us of vermin like mice, rats and other nasty little critters. I knew a guy who kept a pet shop in business by buying little mice to feed to his python.

A mouse is a pest, and it is no different then the feeder mice they sell at the pet store, only this person you know is probably going to save money this way.
I don't know, I think the whole thing is sick personally! Mice are gross, and so are snakes! We should get rid of both of those things.
