It comes from a shrub that grows in forests of NY. It has tiny blue berries with a leathery sort of shell. in also has small green leaves and the berries grow in groups. What is the name of the berry and what does it do?

It could be wild blueberries. I just went wild blueberry picking a few weeks ago. The plant looks like this:

There is another type of berry that has white insides with little seeds. It grows along the forest floor on a sort of mossy plant that has leaves that are like pine needles. These berries aren't called blueberries, even if they are blue. They are loaded with antioxidants, but I am not sure of their name in English.

I will keep looking around for any other possibilities! But as a rule to go by, in the forest, berries that are blue are edible. Now in someone's backyard, the berries that are blue may not be!

THINGS TO DO WITH THEM: These berries are great for freezing! They maintain their nutrition even after being frozen! After frozen, you can snack on them as little sweet frozen snacks... They are also delicious as an ice cream topping, addition to cereal or pancakes, or made into pie. You can also juice them or blend them up with some sugar and have a delicious jam to put on sandwhiches. :) To hold onto the vitamins, minimize the amount of heat that they are exposed to. yes: I do it's gooseberries grown some were in California&
NewYork too. They look like little dark blue thing on a bush
they stain clothing if any gets on you because we use them
in Cereals and pie fillings plus eating them when ripe good

could be in the Ardisia species, they have different coloured berries and can be spread by birds
