I read recently that there are now more obese people in the world than malnourished people.
What a sick, consumerist Western world we live i n.

I've always liked this one, as it really surprises people; it's a fact rather than a statistic, but try betting someone a pint that they can't guess the answer in 5 goes...

These really hit me hard:
Every day 50,000 men, women and children die as a result of poverty.
Every 3 seconds a child under 5 will die of treatable diseases in third world countries.
I think both of which are shameful, and when we moan and whinge that the weathers too cold or we haven't got enough cash to go out Saturday night, we should remember that.

After 10 years of use, the average feather pillow is more than 50% dung.
Gotta love those dust mites. I feel really bad for those people who become so attached to their "comfy" favourite pillow...

A plastic bag left on the roadside as litter, kills on average 15 (I think I've got that right) animals - usually sea life. It may be swallowed by a seal, say, and then when the seal suffocates, dies and eventually decays the bag is free to harm another animal, and so on.
