Yeah, everyone up here is right.
It's A LOT cheaper to just live in davis than SF so it would not be worth the money you spend on commuting.
I knew a lot of people who went to UC Davis and lived in the bay, and commuted, but they made their classes so that they only had to travel twice a week.
During the week, traffic is really bad on the 80 east from SF to Davis in the afternoons.
I have commuted from Davis to SF on many occasions, and depending on traffic can take anywhere from 90minutes-140 minutes. And don't get me started on all the miles you will rack up. You will need an oil change once a month if you do this trip 4x a week.
Amtrak is $14 one way, and that takes 1hr and 20 to get from Davis to Emeryville station and you can take the Bart from there into SF in another 10 or 15 minutes.
You can live in West Sacramento, or Sacramento and the commute on Amtrak is pretty cheap.
West Sac to Davis is about 10-15 minutes.
Live in Davis if you can! I love Davis!

It's certainly possible, but that's a pretty long and expensive commute. California is a big state. It'll be like living in New York City and going to work in Philadelphia.

A monthly pass on Amtrak for San Francisco-Davis is $342.00 a month. And it'll be about 2 hours each way on Amtrak's Capital Corridor (shuttle bus or BART subway: 30 minutes + train: 1 hour, 30 minutes):

It would be impractical to live in San Francisco and commute to Davis because San Francisco is so expensive. Davis is up near Sacramento, so it would be wiser to live in Sacramento and make that commute--it would be a lot easier.

San Francisco to Davis takes about an hour and fifteen minutes; Davis to Sacramento takes about 20.
