You ran it low on oil. The ticking noise you hear is a lifter or rocker that has suffered scaring. As long as you keep the oil up on it you can take this car another 50 to 70 thousand miles. but do not run it low on oil again.

If you let it get two quarts low you probably wore some stuff out. If it's tappet noise, cranking down on the rocker adjustments might quiet it down but the car is past the point where you should pour money into it.
Things don't go wrong 2 days after the oil change is due. You could probably have gone seven or eight thousand miles on good oil with nothing to worry about.

I would guess you oil got low that's why when you add some it got quiet. Oil does not have to be changed every 3months or 3000 miles that is a myth. I'm not a mechanic or an expert but cars have been my hobby for years.
No one could say how long it will last but keep checking the oil and don't let it get low again.

RonB48146 is right. It is a sticking lifter. Probably just changing the oil and filter will cause it to come loose. If it is still clicking after you change the oil, try an oil additive - but not STP. I would use Slick 50 or Moore's.

Sounds like a bad lifter from lack of oil. Or a bad bearing.

sounds like your bearings are getting worn out by the oil's viscosity. You need to change the filter as well as the oil.

you have a sticking lifter. it's not uncomon on cars that are over 15 years old. "Is it going to break you?" yes if you have a crook for a mechanic.
