Ok I used to go out with someone my freshman and sophomore year. We broke up over the summer and I dated someone else we just broke up a couple weeks ago and I'm going back out with the person I used to be with. I know it's kind of confusing but now the guy I went out with over the summer is pissed off and he's threatening to go to the cops because I'm 17 and my boyfriend just turned 18. Our parents obviously know we're together we were high school sweethearts so we have parental consent. We're only a year apart but because he just turned 18 now can my ex actually get us in trouble. How does the law work with stuff like that? We havn't had sex or anything, what does the law all say about this?

In the state I'm in, you are a consenting adult if you are 17 or older. But if you are 16 or younger, then your parents have to be the ones to press charges, & obviously your parents wouldn't do that.

*Not Legal Advice*

It all depends what you have done with your ex/now boyfriend and what state you are in. Many of the laws regarding statutory rape, etc. don't have a mental/state of mind requirement and there can be no consent. Therefore, whether or not you gave consent, or your parents consented, if the DA/State wanted to bring charges they may be able to do so. It also doesn't necessarily matter whether or not there was sex, other actions are prosecutable.

Don't let this immature guy get to you. I can't imagine the DA bringing charges like this. However, if you wan't a real opinion, talk to an attorney.

you have your parents consent and you are over 16. It's okay to date someone younger than 18. You ex is a moron and trying to jerk with you. You are well rid of the guy.

Your ex is just harassing you. The cops can't do any thing it's legal. Also depends on what state you're in as far as sex and age of consent.

First off, parents can only consent to a minor getting married, not to date an adult. So that means nothing.
Second, if you are not activly having sex than there is nothign that your EX can do, an adult dating a minor isn't illegal.

Don't have sex and don't worry about the crazy jealous ex about going to the authorities. However, I'd worry about him being a jealous psycho who tries to kill somebody.

Your ex is a moron. Sounds like you need to call the cops on him for harassment.
