Yes, but it'll take time.
Here are some things you can try:
If the cage is small, put it on your bed, sit next to it (have a good book with you, and plan on not moving for a while), and have lots of treats handy.
Start with the treats near the cage door, and as the hamster takes them, move them closer to you.
Don't pick him up randomly, let him come to you. If you are always picking him up, he'll get scared & hand shy.
Get him used to having your hands in his cage, try sitting with your hand in the cage, with some treats on your hand.
If you google 'taming hamster' (or rat, same theory) you should find some good stuff. Good luck!

! you can try but it may be really hard..... my hamsters were about 2 months old when i got them and my cousin somehow tamed them for me, they bit him alot... but we took them out for 30 minutes each day and they got used to us=)
here are some tips on how to tame it:
1.First of all, wash your hands before handling the hamster. You don't want him to think your finger is a piece of food!
2.First, offer a piece of food to him. Maybe he won't take it from your hand the first few times, but he will know (by smell) that it was you who were so nice to him. Later, try to hold the food patiently, waiting to see if he will come up to you and take it from your hand. After a couple days, he should start to become more comfortable with this.
3.Instead of reaching into the cage and picking up the hamster with your hands, you can first try letting him crawl into a container or plastic tunnel. After he goes in, you would lift the container out of the cage and let him crawl onto your hand or out onto a small enclosed area on the floor, where you can gently pet him. You may even be able to pick him up from the floor carefully.

Hamsters are very hard to tame, even when they're young. They're very solitary creatures and don't like to be bothered much. They also tend to bite more than most rodents. Being as old as it is, it'll be very difficult. But I'm sure it won't hurt to try.
