Skipping and doing ' doublers' which meant that the rope had to go under your feet twice before they hit the ground. Also Hopscotch, chalking the the numbers on the playground and after a good rain shower going to see how intact they were.

Great question!! Rollerball was my favourite. Played in 1/3 of a netball court, one or more football sized balls, as many people as you like. If you are hit below the knee with a ball, you are out and have to stand around the outside line of the court. No running wth the ball. The idea is to get everyone else out and be the last one in. The people who are "out" grab the balls as they reach the outside line and try to get people out too.

I also liked Hospital Tig for variety. Like normal tag, but wherever you are tagged is where you have to hold until you tag someone else. Lots of amusing 9-year-old fun tagging different bits of the anatomy and watching people runa round holding them.
Fast, furious, skillful, and potentially vicious, I have great memories of it at primary school.

Freeze tag, because something about having to be "frozen" is fun.

Handball was a game that required skill and speed and if you were any good it was something to be proud of.

Pattycake, everygirl I know has fond memories of playing some kind of patty cake game or even down by the banks.

Chinese jumprope, always a fun challenge and friendly competition.

not particularly playground game but knock down ginger was my favourite. I'm 47 and would still play now if someone would play with me. I like the rush lol.

Not sure if it has a proper name, we just called it Elastics where you do all this jumping and criss-cross stuff on a circle of elastic that is around two people. I loved it 'cos I have long legs so could always do more than anyone else!

I think chasing was my favourite as it was great fun, several could play at a time and it was easy. I wasn't much good at skipping, so I didn't really like it. ***** Four Corners was another good one.

I adored "Tig on lines" - basic tig, but you had to stay on the lines of the playground, and the British Isles map was 'base' where you were safe.

British bulldogs, sadly outlawed now in favour of sitting down quietly wrapped in cotton wool.
