Or are some of them wimps? My friend said he wants to be a cop but he is terrified of violence.

Not all cops are tough guys, but most of them think they are. I don't say that in a negative way, but if you are insecure and fall back, then you will have some issues. Also, cops are enforcers and must use force at times, so you at least can't be a wimp.

Tough? No, well, yes. You do have to be able to do certain things that require toughness - if you want to call it that.

no, but most forces have a physical aptitude test one must pass. this includes running, jumping, climbing, and carrying. they have courses and training to prepare you to handle violent situations.
