the midpoint in a series of numbers; half the data values are above the median, and half are below. For example, in the odd series 1, 4, 9, 12 and 33, 9 is the median. In the even series 1, 4, 10, 12, 33 and 88, 11 is the median (halfway between 9 and 12). Note, the median is not necessarily the same as the AVERAGE (or mean). For example, the median of 2, 6, 10, 22 and 40 is 10 but the average is 18.

The middle value in a set of numbers arranged in increasing order. If there is an even number of values, then median is the average of the middle two values. For example: The median of the set {10, 12, 14, 19, 20} is 14. The median of the set {2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9} is 5, which is the average of 4 and 6.~

The median of a row of numbers is basically the middle. Here, I'll give you an example:

1,1,1,2,3,4,4,4,5,5,6,7,8,8,8,8,9

If you have all these numbers, you have to cross off one number from each side until you're down to the middle. So, we'd cross of the first number and the last number. If you keep continuing in this manner, you should end up with a "median" of 5. That is the middle number out of all those above.

Median is a term used with data. when placed numerically the median is the middle number
ie.1,3,3,5,6 the median is 3
If the middle number is 2 numbers you add them both together then you divide them by 2
ie. 1,3,6,9,11,15 the median is 6+9=15 divided by 2 is 7.5
