The actual average is around £12,000 per week. many get more than that but many more get less. Obviously the big stars, Rooney, Henry, Terry, Ferdinand and so on get astronomical wages but they're the best. Because football clubs have to submit accounts, and these includes players wages, it is simple to add up the squad members in each club who get those wages and divide it out. Don't forget that clubs like Watford, Wigan, West Ham and so on who have been recently promoted still have players on Championship contracts. They are compensated by bonuses since many newly promoted teams go back down again. In my former employment as a Bank manager, before retirement, I had dealings with several Premiership players and a couple of managers and, believe me some were internationals and Premier League winners and they didn't get anything like the press reported.

I also had a reporter who worked for the Sun newspaper. I asked him how they knew how much players got paid. His answer, "We don't, we just make it up. After all we're in the business of selling papers so we have to put good stories in, don't we?"

As a result of the increasingly lucrative television deals, player wages rose sharply following the formation of the Premier League. In the first Premier League season the average player wage was £75,000 per year, but subsequently rose by an average 20% per year for a decade, peaking in the 2003-04 season, when the annual salary of the average Premier League player was £900,000.

thats the latest average wages I could find, should imagine its about 1.1 million now

£25,000 per week, probably - it's too much. Have you seen what it does to them, having too much money? It's not good.
