Depends on what you're looking to do. Scottsdale has amazing shopping - Kierland, Fashion Square, Biltmore (ok that's the Phx/Scottsdale border). World-class restaurants can be found all over - try Old Town Scottsdale for some great ones. Great clubs and bars can also be found in Old Town. Like hiking? There's plenty. Golfing is incredible, too. The temperature is great year-round.

Tons of shopping and dining.
Try old town scottsdale for some local charm, art galleries, etc.
Challenger space center in Peoria (on the west side)
Dessert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix
Pinnacle Peak patio - old themed rest.
Chinese cultural center (phoenix)
A few casinos in the area too
There's hiking in the area too-- east of mesa.
Tortilla Flats - east of apache junction with a cool ride up in the mountains and lakes.
Roosevelt Dam- along the same path as item above
There are plenty of clubs in the old scottsdale area too-- music, bands, dancing, dj's etc.

Shopping and eatng at good restaurants. If you're into hiking, try Camelback Mountain. It's usually too hot to enjoy outside activities. They also have first run movies.
