LP = Long Play= Full Album
EP = Extended Play= Longer than a single but shorter than a full album
It refers to vinyl albums generally

in the days of vinyl records, you had 12 inch disks which held on average twelve tracks, called LP's or long playing records.
you also had six inch disks named EP's or extended play records, which held sometimes four or five tracks... hope that helps
